what is a good amount to have spent on a baby shower gift if your not invited?

I was told by my close friend from high school (we've lost touch) that she is having a baby in October, I would like to send her a gift, event though I don't think that I am invited to the shower. How much should I plan to spend?

Look her name up on all the local Baby Registries; surprise her with something she registered for
Most give the option of just having the gift sent directly to her home.
(that's how my registry was.)

I'd spend $20-$30.
She'll feel really special that you would take the time to look her registry up!

I was just invited to a baby shower for someone I don’t know. It’s a relative of an acquaintance of mine. The invitation said I realize you don’t know “Jane” (the lady having the baby) but I hope you can make it to the shower.

I don’t want to go because I don’t know this person and I am not really good friends with the lady that sent me the invitation. How do I turn it down politely?

JUst simply say you have other plans that day. I would not send a gift..it was some what rude to send you a invite.
